Isn't this the way it always happens?

Well I get home from getting fingerprinted for the Child Care Worker position and I decide hurr durr I'm gonna look at my emails for the first time in two days. Well low and behold I had received an email from the Michigan Department of Corrections wanting to set up an interview for a Parole/Probation Officer. Which I am a little interested in, almost enough to set up the interview and just see what they have to offer. The pay scale is a little better for the Corrections position and has all the same benefits. I don't know if I should set up the interview. What if I got the Corrections position, would I be able to quit the Child Care Worker position during my orientation period?

Here's a PDF of the position that I just got the email for

Update and New Chapters

Well it's official, I pretty much have this new job in the bag. So far I've nailed the interview that I had in June, and I passed the drug test and physical. Now I have to go today and get fingerprinted and have a background test done. Oh I haven't even explained what the job is yet. The position I've been hired into is as a Child Care Worker for the state of Michigan at a state mental hospital. Which considering how the economy and job market in Michigan has been this is a blessing. The job probably doesn't pay what's normal for somebody with a BS from an University would usually make starting off but I figure it's a good stepping stone and hopefully one thing will lead to another. But here are some of the perks of this position.

  • Full health, eye, dental benefits

  • AFSCME(union) Represented

  • 1430 to 2239 work schedule

  • Will give me valuable experience

  • As a state worker I get to apply to internal job vacancies which gives me better opportunities with state jobs

  • Retirement packages

I start on Monday at 0800 sharp. For the first three weeks I'll be on an 0800 to 1430 schedule for my orientation period. I just test drove out there to see how long it would take in rush hour traffic to get there. I left at 0620 and had no traffic so I got there in under a half hour. And on the way back at around 0700 traffic had already started to back up. So rather than cut it close what I figure I'll do is leave the house at 0620 and get there an hour early, then I'll stop at the Einstein Bagel shop down the road and have breakfast and chill for an hour. But I'm very excited and I have to email some other people to spread the news so wish me luck and hopefully I do good at this and make some bank.

Coffee and German Physicists
Michigan Flag

Was drinking coffee on the storefront patio at Caribou Coffee on Kercheval, when an old German Physicist struck up a conversation with me. We discussed many things and he asked if I was in school and what I studied. I told him I studied Psychology. He laughed at me, he mentioned that psychology didn't make sense and that it went against itself as psyche stands for soul and they deny that the soul exists. I then explained that they had to in order to gain respect and street cred from the scientific community which was and is controlled mainly by the natural sciences. He laughed at me even harder and said that psychology isn't a science and that if they wanted to cure problems they'd start by reading a dictionary and understanding how illiterate they are first.

tl;dr I got schooled hard by a German Physicist on the error of my studies.

Well I got my internship.

As the subject states I got that internship and I've survived a week of it. I'm in the Sault Area Middle School. It's okay, I start one on one cases this week with the kids. It's so early though. I have to wake up at 0600 and be in work by 0800 Monday, Tuesday, Friday. Once I get the sleep schedule down I'll be fine.

I'm pissed though, I ment to go to the Transitions Fair planning meeting at 1000 on Saturday. And I was awake but then I dozed off on the couch, woke up at 1200 after the two hour meeting. I wonder if Geri will be mad at me. I fell bad cuz I wanted to go, but how did I know I'd fall asleep on my couch. I wish my roommate didn't spend all night on the PS3 cuz he would have been up to wake me up, but that did happen so whatever. I'll see what she says and I'll apologize and ask her when the next one is, it's about all I can do. Oh I'm also gonna look into getting the guys at the Fraternity to volunteer with the fair as well, it would look good on us and I'd be a nice thing to do. I need to buy dress pants, I can't find any of mine. I must have left them at home.

Friday night I was feeling like shit shit, so I bought something to cheer me up. A nice new bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label. Now all I need is some Belvedere and I'll be a happy camper.

I bought tickets for the hockey game next week, six of em. I hope they I got the date right, I bought the ones for Friday the 30th. If I'm wrong hopefully they can come up earlier or I can exchange them.

I over heard a group of students complaining. the thinnest and tallest girl of the group was complaining about how an English professor had inaccurately correcter her. The subject matter she was upset with was Religion in the State. Apparently the Prof had corrected her by stating that there was no law separating church and state, she must had used in a paper that there was a law. The Girl however was convinced that she was correct and that the prof was wrong, that there was such law on the books separating the two.

Upon telling her friends in the QD, where I overheard them, her friends concurred with her that there was in fact a law that actively separates church and state. An out spoken male that was very tall and the apparent Alpha Male in the group with his Michigan State hat(yet the jackass goes to LSSU) agreed with the girl and continued to support the notion by exclaiming"It is, just tell her to look it up on the internet". This made me lul heartily because this is the first place where they would have found themselve's incorrect! When even a user based encyclopedia such as Wikipedia would have shown them that they mention of the separating of Church and State was in a letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists. In this letter it was stated that there should be a separating of Church and State. While there is no defined law that states that they have to be separate.

There is however the Constitution that defines that there shall be no State Religion or rather Religion of the State. This means that the Government cannot declare one religion above all other that's the people must embrace and be part of. ie: Soviet Russia's abolishment of religion and mandate that the people be atheist.

Wow a year already?

Well I was thinking, and it's been about a year since I posted on here. And holy shit a lot has happened. A lot of things that I wish didn't happen. It's kinda weird how that stuff works though, how it changes you. You have to learn how to live and such. Well since I have an entire year to talk about I'll start where I left off.

Well I recently talked with my Parents on the phone and they mentioned that Emma our dog was getting bad. About a year ago she had a lump on her leg, it was cancer. We had it cut off but it came back. At that we decided to let it go. Well now she can't really walk on that leg, so she doesn't move much, She has lumps all over, and her eye is starting bulge out so there may even be a tumor behind her eye, plus she's old. So yesterday night I was on the phone again with my parents and we'll be putting Emma down on Saturday the 22nd at 10am. We have a spot dug out to bury her out on some property owned by a friend of the family. It's weird you know, I know it's silly to feel so sad about it. But she's been with us for a so long. We got her back when I was 7 for christ's sake. It's weird though, I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to feel. Especially so close to Christmas. This fucking sucks ass.

Politics: Gun Control
Michigan Flag
[info]myhk
So there has been a lot of shit in the politics lately. So much that I'm only gonna cover one thing that has pissed me off for the last seven years, gun control. In the last year there has been a couple of shootings and of course the outcry to restrict guns further. I'm very annoyed by these people as most of them know nothing of the laws or anything for the matter dealing with firearms. Half the problem is that bureaucracy prevents the laws that are already in place from being effective.

On a side note I love how the news has covered the Omaha Mall Shootings, they have over glorified it and given misleading information to support themselves. They have reported the weapon every time as an AK style weapon or an Assault Rifle. The gun he used was an SKS. This is a soviet style semi-auto carbine rifle. It has a ten round internal magazine. It is in no way related to the AK family other than it uses the same legal ammo, nor is in under the AWB definition of an Assault Rifle. The SKS is completely legal. So that is twice that the media has blatantly lied about this tragedy, or they simply didn't know jack shit about it and rather than doing the responsible thing as a news agency and looking it up they made it up. The sad thing is they did it for either ratings or to support their anti-gun views. My heart goes out to the individuals and families of this event. It is a shame that the media dishonors them in this way.

They keep saying that if we make guns harder to get that they will less likely get them. But this only works if they get it though a legal channel, if they get it illegally that's a whole different story.continued )

Yeah I'm back!

So it's official, school is kicking my ass. I've got an ass load of shit to do now. Physio-psychology is hard but I really enjoy it. Personality theory is kicking my ass. Learning is hard but I can do it. I enjoy counseling, and I think I understand most of it. The part I really enjoy is the lab were we get to use what we've learned.

Then with Theta Xi I'm the secretary now. So I get to write shit and deal with stuff. It's a bother but I'm getting the stuff done slowly but surely. We got a lot of work to do to turn stuff around, but it's going okay so far. I hope that we pull through.

The weather has been really screwy up here. It was mild then it got cold late October. But now it's mild again. In the beginning of November we had the first snow. It lasted about 3/4 of the day then it melted. But I'm waiting for it to turn mid to late November and just kick our asses hard and be like "Haha you thought this was gonna be nice did you!" then a blizzard hits with -10 temps. According to NOAA the next chance for snow is tonight into tomorrow, and then for the next three days.

I haven't shot my rifle up here. That is the reason I brought it up but I haven't done that yet. Thus it has been two or three years since I've last fired it. Oh I'm ever so close to turning 21 which if you know me you know that drinking has nothing to do with my excitement. I'll be able to take the class and apply for my CCW. Then all I have to do is get money up to by that HK USP45 that I want so bad.

On the personal stuff, I'm still single. That does not appear to be likely to change. Anime club is doing really well. A new group of freshmen are highly motivated and are willing so stuff is happening. And I need to go to the library to print off some stuff and read it. So I'll post later in the near future.

Coney Dogs are yummy!

[info]myhk
I'm fucking tired of people calling a chili dogs a coney dog. They are very different. A chili dog is a hot dog with chili on it. Chili with beans and all that jazz, Basically the kind of chili that you could eat by itself. A Coney Dog has a special type of chili. It's like a meat chili that doesn't have beans. And while I like the taste of it and could eat it alone, it is made more as a topping. Also a coney dog has the standard toppings of Chili, onions, and mustard. I mean what would I know, I only live right next to Detroit. But it you still don't believe me read it for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coney_dog
